On Feb. 6, 2010, Haitian Congress to Fortify Haiti Chairman Lionel Jean-Baptiste traveled to Port-au-Prince, Haiti with fellow National Haitian American Elected OfficialsNetwork (NHAEON) member, Massachusetts State Representative, Marie  St. Fleur. They met with the Haitian government, USAID and numerous non governmental organizations (NGOs) in an effort to asses the nation’s material and political needs.  Lionel returns to Worldview to shares his evaluation.

Topics covered include the response of the Haitian government,  the distribution of aid resources,  the invisibility of the Haitian media in international coverage, the role of the Haitian diaspora in recovery, and more.

Haitian Congress to Fortify Haiti, Chairman Lionel Jean-Baptiste speaks on Worldview (91.5 FM, WBEZ Chicago) about Haiti, its history, its future and local responses to the 7.0-magnitude earthquake in the week that followed.  He is joined by our friend Melinda St. Louis, deputy director of Jubiliee USA Network who tells us about the IMF’s recent offer to aid the earthquake relief efforts.

Topics include Haiti’s history of freedom, struggle, debt, its relationship with the United States, the recent earthquake, and how to help.
